PS Codes

This month we are adding PSCodes to support clients sending shipping/handling/insurance amounts as separate line items from the ERP.  Taxability determination for these new PSCodes will  be handled using our shipping determination model and amounts sent via these new codes will be treated the same as amounts sent in the shipping object at the invoice level.

Changes of note related to tax data configuration

This month, we are including the final batch of changes made to Tax Type Code Values. This work is part of our ongoing efforts to standardize the use of certain Tax Type Codes across jurisdictions for similar taxes, and to distinguish percentage-based from fee-based taxes by Tax Type Code. The standardizations included the following changes:

Colorado

  • We changed certain Telephone Taxes from Tax Type Code  220 to 148 -  from Business and Occupation Tax (Rate) to License Tax Rate
  • We changed certain Telephone Taxes from Tax Type Code  131 to 225 – from Business and Occupation Tax  to License (Fee)

Georgia

  • We changed the for-hire Transportation Tax from Tax Type Code  138 to 228 – from Excise Tax Rate to Excise Tax Fee
  • We changed certain local telephone taxes from Tax Type Code  131 to 148 – from Business and Occupation Tax  to License Tax Rate

Illinois

  • We changed the Chicago bottled water Tax Type Code  from 138 to 228 – from Excise Tax Rate to Excise Tax Fee

Nebraska

  • We changed certain local telephone taxes from Tax Type Code  131 to 148 – from Business and Occupation Tax  to License Tax Rate

Mississippi

  • We changed the statewide privilege license tax Tax Type Code from 148 to 225 – from License Tax Rate to License Tax Fee

Reconfiguration of Colorado 911 data

In our ongoing effort to improve the geographic precision of our rate determinations, we have added a new layer of GIS boundaries for Colorado local 911 impositions. All 911 fee data in Colorado have been associated with these new precise GIS boundaries. The taxes retained the same Tax Type Code values, while the Tax Level 5-District was chosen to reflect the fact that Colorado 911 authority and boundary are different in many cases than standard county or city boundaries.

Rate Changes of Note

Pursuant to legislation enacted last year, Nebraska approved two new “Good Life” sales tax districts for the purpose of economic development, effective 4/1/2024. Transactions within the approved districts enjoy a reduced state level sales tax rate of 2.75%. Our GIS and rate files have been updated accordingly. The full list of rate changes are documented below.
